Buzzards Bay Association Supports CanalSide Commons Retail Plan for Bourne Circle area
JULY 28, 2006 -- The Buzzards Bay Village Association, Inc. (BBVA) representing residents, business, and community organizations along Main Street and environs in Buzzards Bay, endorses Len Cubellis' plan to construct much needed retail facilities in the Town of Bourne. The residents of Bourne have long been denied convenient access to meet their modern retail needs and this investment will trigger an effort to restore contemporary retail amenities to all Bourne residents and visitors." said Tom Moccia, president of the BBVA.
Cubellis' plan will help in the revitalization efforts for Buzzards Bay. Bourne residents, to now access these goods and services, must venture off Cape or down Cape taking with them their spending dollars benefiting other communities, With CanalSide Commons, residents will stay in town; a revitalized Main Street/Buzzards Bay will be able to leveragethose shoppers giving them an additional shopping opportunity area in town.
The BBVA is working with the Bourne Financial Development Corporation (BFDC) in developing a master scheme for making Main Street a viable, visible and vital downtown area consistent with smart growth and village center parameters and expectations. This will take some time -perhaps more than a year or so, as a number of critical infrastructure issues must first be resolved and addressed - such as: waste and storm water disposal, building density levels, zoning adjustments, marketing, designated flood area and transportation infrastructure, including parking, traffic circulation, restoring passenger rail service and high speed telecommunications.
The residents of the Town of Bourne have suffered long from being unable to locally access quality retailing for all sorts of consumer and capital goods necessary to sustain a quality of life across the town. Len Cubellis efforts begin to fill this gap." said Tom Moccia, BBVA president.
In addition, to providing quality retail goods and service, Cubellis will set a standard for quality construction consistent with Cape Cod ambience and flavor which is certain to be the model for future construction in Bourne and along Main Street.
