Tree’s Place under new ownership
June 12, 2006 -- From its modest beginnings more than 40 years ago, Tree’s Place in Orleans has evolved into a unique retail destination, featuring a gift shop, a tilery offering specialty tiles for the home and an art gallery which has earned national prominence. Tree’s Place is now poised to enter a new chapter under the auspices of its new owner, Donna Steele of Dennisport.
Steele has more than 30 years experience in retail, with an emphasis on home décor. She sees the acquisition of Tree’s Place as an opportunity to fulfill a personal entrepreneurial ambition while enhancing an already very successful enterprise. “This is a different retail venue for me, admittedly,” Steele says. “I am extremely lucky to have a lot of resident talent to help me,” she added, referring to the existing Tree’s Place staff. Additionally, former owners Elaine and Julian Baird will be staying at the business through the summer and will remain as consultants for two years.
The Bairds bought Tree’s Place in 1981 and are looking forward to the next chapter. “Donna has the requisite business experience and boundless enthusiasm,” said Julian Baird. “I think it is likely that over the next few years Tree’s Place will be raised to an entirely new level,” he concluded. Elaine Baird agrees, praising Steele’s business aplomb and adding that “We felt it was time for a breath of fresh air to blow through here.”
Tree’s Place is in Orleans, where Routes 6A and 28 meet and online at www.treesplace.com.
