Landscape supply and natural wood recycling business to open in Brewster
March 12, 2008 — Cape Sand and Recycling, a landscape supply and natural wood recycling facility for contractors and homeowners, will open on Saturday, March 15th. The Freeman’s Way business will serve landscapers, excavation and site work contractors, and do-it-yourselfers.
The operation, established by the Merchant family of Dennis and Brewster, will sell supplies including sand, stone, hardeners, mulch, soil, and shells, and will accept landscape materials. Contractors and homeowners may dump brush, stumps, concrete, fill, clay, and asphalt on-site, or rent 10 to 30-yard landscape containers delivered to Brewster, Chatham, Harwich, Orleans, Dennis, Eastham, and Yarmouth. Disposal of small amounts of yard waste (including grass clippings, leaves, and wood chips) will be free to purchasing customers.
Company president Jay Merchant said the land purchase and new business venture will benefit the Town of Brewster, area contractors and homeowners, as well as the Merchants’ Dennis Port corporation, Chase and Merchant. The family’s new affiliated landscape supply and waste recycling operation complements their two-generation service business. James and Lois Merchant were founding partners in Chase and Merchant rubbish removal in 1950, and their son Jay expanded into excavation and septic installation services over a decade ago. Chase and Merchant also offers septic pumping and asphalt paving.
In keeping with Chase and Merchant tradition, Cape Sand and Recycling “will take care of our customers, our employees, and our natural resources,” said Merchant. The former owners of the industrial property and the Town of Brewster “have entrusted us with this unique parcel of land, and we are working hard to carry out a shared vision of protecting the environment while operating a profitable service business.” The Merchants look forward to growing their new company “for generations to come.”
Cape Sand and Recycling will open for business at 1515 Freeman’s Way, Brewster (the former site of Brewster Sand and Gravel). Hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 7:00 a.m. to noon. Please call (508) 255-1550 for more information.
